Welcome to The East Galway Hunt Website
On behalf of the East Galway Hunt, its committee and joint masters we would like to welcome you to the East Galway Hunt Website. The East Galway Hunt territory is approx 48Kms long by 24 Kms wide, running from the southern parts of Roscommon as far as Cam Hill extending south to Portumna taking in Gurteeny, Ballinasloe, Killimor, Tynagh, Kiltormer, Laurencetown & Eyrecourt. It is a very varied and enjoyable hunting area due to the vast variation in the country going from Stone walls to Hedges and Ditches to Bogs.
Annually the Hunt organises a number of events, these include the Hunt Ball, Point to Point, Hunter Trials, A Golf Classic & other social events. The hunt also sees it as an important policy to support charities & since its inception has organised many charity rides, and many credit East Galway as being the instigator of charity rides with its first charity ride going from Taughmaconnel in Roscommon to Tynagh in Galway via Portumna. Also in 2009 The East Galway Hunt entered the history books for completing a charity ride of over 30 miles from Birr to Tynagh via Portumna through 3 provinces, 3 counties & 3 hunt countries raising much needed funds for Cancer care west.

The Hunt is actively involved in the conservation of the environment & maintenance of wood & bogland area's. As a very active & well supported hunt the East Galway's are of great importance to the local industry with many services & products required for the upkeep of the hunt & the horse industry in general. Liam Mcalinden our Huntsman has also implemented a very successful breeding programme for our foxhounds with a mixture of old English & Welsh foxhounds. The hounds can been seen in the Gallery section.
